From the history of youth participation in nationwide high-speed irrigation
construction projects in Tajikistan ( 1939-1942 yy.)
Keywords: a nation-wide high-speed irrigation construction, patronage of the Komsomol, a mass popular
movement for water, labor feat of youth, agitation and outreach, cultural and mass work.
In late 30 th and early 40 th of the last century, the workers of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan republics were the
initiators of the nation-wide high-speed irrigation systems. They were interested in the  construction of the
Great Fergana and Big Hissar channels. The construction of these channels was an opportunity for wor kers
of the two neighboring republics to irrigate new lands, to gain high agricultural products harvest, partic ularly
cotton.
The members of Komsomol and youth of Tajikistan actively participated in the construction of  nation-
wide high-speed irrigation construction projects. The Komsomol of Tajikistan patronized the  construction of
the Great Fergana and Big Hissar channels.
Continuing the Stakhanovite baton, Komsomol members and youth showed true heroism, showed the
samples of shock work. They actively carried out propaganda and educational work among builders.
The power of people’s friendship was enormous. Tajiks, Russians, Uzbeks, Tatars, Oseti ns, the
representatives of nearly twenty nationalities worked together in the construction of  nation-wide high-speed
irrigation building projects.
During this period, three major irrigation constructions were created with the fraternal  efforts of
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan peoples.
The heroic work of the builders deserved a high evaluation of the government. Exemplary workers  were
awarded orders and medals.
