один8ковой величины съ предыдущею и впадаеть въ Плнжу, юж-
нФе Баръ-Плижи. Вдоль ея тянется дорога изъ Шагнава черезъ
Иева Памиръ въ: Файзабалъ”). Съ права -Оксъ принимаетъ божь-
шую рЪру Сучанъ.Она образуется изъ сляня двухъ значитель-
ныхъ рВкъ Шахъ-дара и Гхунда; он% соединаются за полмили до
впаден1я вЪ Пянжу. Об% рёки почти одинаковы и но соединени
равняются WO своей `величинЪ двумъ третямъ главной р®ки, кото-
рая продолжаеть называться Аб-я-Панжа. Сучанъ впадаеть н®-
сколько миль южн%е Барь-Пянжи. Въ этомъ м®стЬ долина расши-
рается почти до четырехъ:миль; злдБсь находится MHOIO ‹›бршбо—
танной земли-и пастьбищЪ. -
По берегамъ двухъ рёкъ — Шахъ-дара и Гхучдъ находнтея
много деревень: Черезъ девять миль къ сФверу отъ Баръ-Пянжи
въ шегненской долин® у Сечарва рёка съуживается и становитея

whatever on the other side.... From Kuguz Parin to Darband Tower there
are numerous villages scatiered along Loth hanks of the river,.... The chief
town, Bar Panjah, is on the left bank.... The valley at Bar Panjah is about
four miles” wide and contains & great many houses and gardens. The river
runs in numerous channels separated by jungle covered islands..... Та Jaly

cross aé Bar Panjah, to the other bank, the road on the left bank baing then

considerable affluents оп the left bank, the Shewa and Vacherv River. The
rormer is crossed by а good bridge, and was about 25 yards in width, and
unfordable, when the Munshi passed in May. It flows from a lake in Shewd
Pamir... The Vacherv River is about the same size as the Shewa stream, and
joins the Panjah to the south of Bar Panjah. Along it lies a much frequented
road from Shighnédn, over the Shewa Pamir to Faizabad.

) Ibd., crp. 279: On its right bank the Oxus riceives one very large river,
the Suchdn formed by two large streams, the Shikhdara and the Ghund,
which unite about half a mile before joining the Panjah. The two branches
are of about equal size, and $he anited stream is about two thirds of the size
of the main river, which continues to be called the Ab-i-Panjah, The Suchdn
stream enters a few miles south of Bar Panjah. The valley opens opposite the
Junction to a width of about four miles, forming a beautiful well eultivated
plain, with a good deal of pasture land.
